Dates for the
Winter 2009 program:
Tentative arrival/departure dates
of 12/15- 1/15 ***The dates for mandatory
training and application deadline will be announced soon***
To host a child,
the actual cost of their travel and program expenses is
$2150.
Siblings are $2050. Ultimately, each host family
is responsible for fundraising or paying this expense. We have
ideas to assist with fundraising! All hosting money is
considered a donation and is tax-deductible as NHFC is a
non-profit IRS approved 501-(c) 3 Corporation.
If you can’t host, please call about other needs! We always need
donations to help bring sibling groups as they are
cost-prohibitive for a single family to usually pay for more
than 1 child.
All hosting families must have
criminal background checks, child abuse clearances, reference
checks and have a social worker visit in their home prior to
hosting. Each family is required to
attend a 6 hour mandatory training session
in one of the programs cities: currently Atlanta & Philadelphia. If a group forms in another area,
training will also be held in that area. A full “homestudy” is
not required except for out of program (outside of GA/FL/central
TX/S. CA and E. PA state) families.
Most children who are hosted are deemed available for adoption,
but no child is guaranteed to be
available for adoption until verified later by an
International Adoption Agency, accredited to handle adoptions in
the child's home country, after a family applies and is approved
to adopt.
NHFC is NOT an adoption agency,
though we do understand the processes to a great extent from our
own personal adoption experiences.
Please understand that adoption is a natural by-product of our
program. However, statistics show that normally only 20% of our
hosting families go into hosting with an idea of adoption.
However, generally 80% or more of our children do end up being
adopted by their host family or someone they met while staying
with their host family through neighbors, extended family,
church members of the host family’s church, or others who found
out about the program while in process. For this reason, each
family who applies to host is considered a potential adopting
family and the approval process for hosting is very similar to
the approval process for adoption. In some cases, families
cannot be approved for adoption, but can be approved to host.
Examples would be age, length of marriage or chronic medical
issues of the parents that are not life threatening, but in
other countries are not acceptable for adoption of a child. If
you have a concern, please ask!

New Horizons for Children
is a non-profit, 501 (c)3, Christian ministry. Our goal is to
identify children in orphanages in other countries who would
benefit from and most likely be able to adapt to a Christian
family environment in the USA. We aim to teach English, prayer
time, cultural differences and how a loving family life can and
should be. This one example, may well be, the only example of a
functional family in these children's lives. Because of the
mission of our program, all our hosting families must be of the
Christian faith and attending a Christian church. We are a
non-denominational organization, but we are all Christians,
serving one God and following Jesus Christ as His son, and as
our personal Savior. Teaching and modeling these Christian
principles is a primary goal for our hosting families.
