HOSTING REQUIREMENTS:

While the ideal situation for a hosted child is a two parent family, in order to see the example of "parents" and to witness a functional husband/wife (family) relationship, we do accept single mothers for hosting when it meets the best interest of a child. Therefore, our program allows single mothers to host as well.

The basic requirements to host are as follows:

1. The host family (married couple or single mother) must be of the Christian faith, and have a personal understanding and relationship with Jesus Christ and be active in a Christian church. A statement of faith is made in writing by each parent prior to acceptance into the adoptive program.

2. If married, the parents must have a minimum of 2 years of marriage completed at the time of applying to host. We do realize that many times a family for older children especially above the age of 11 is not an easy thing to locate. Therefore, in some situations with hosting of older children, this requirement may be reduced depending on age of the applicants, time they have known each other, time they dated, prior divorces etc...

3. Both parents must be in good health with normal life expectancy, with a stable home life, adequate income to support adding a child etc... Information on two applicants (if married) is requested because both will require fingerprinting and child abuse clearances.

Please carefully read and sign where provided below.

We understand that (For Russian/Latvian children, hosting is $2150 per child and $2050 for siblings) the program fee must be fundraised or paid to cover each child's travel costs, medical insurance, visa, passport and escorts. We understand that $500 per hosting family is due upon making the decision to host a particular children), with the remaining amounts due as follows:  2nd payment of $800 due by October 15th 2008;  and final payment of $850 due by November 15th 2008 We will expect to spend an additional (approximately) $250 on the child's clothes and personal belongings. We understand the children arrive with "the clothes on their back".

We understand that sometime during the child's visit, we are to arrange dental exams which are typically donated by various providers, when asked, at no cost. However, depending upon the extent of dental problems a child has, some cost may need to be fundraised or paid by the host family, if additional funds are not available. We understand that a goal of the hosting program is to coordinate donated medical and dental work for all hosted children. We agree to get an eye exam for our hosted child and eyeglasses are at the expense or discretion of the host family. LensCrafters has an underprivileged program in which they donate eye exams and glasses if needed. Otherwise Wal-Mart and Target typically offer the best prices.

We understand that some children will bring a suitcase that is empty, that was sent home with the previous hosting group. But, if our child does not have a suitcase, one will need to be located. Only one rolling suitcase and one “backpack” carry-on can be sent home with each child.

We understand that all money given/paid to NHFC by our family or others on our behalf is considered a tax deductible donation and cannot be refunded. We are not “receiving a service or thing” for money donated to the hosting program, therefore it is tax deductible. NOTE: Under extremely rare circumstances, a child may pulled from the program due to illness or other unavoidable cause in the child’s country of origin, NHFC will do all possible to offer an alternate child or transfer unspent money to the next hosting program for an affected family. However, many non-refundable program related payments are made by NHFC to cover airline tickets, passports, visas, train tickets, medical insurance policies etc, throughout the 3 months prior to the arrival of the children which cannot be recouped, refunded or used later. Some things are beyond the control of NHFC, but we will do the most we possibly can to bring your selected child or children on the program as planned.

We understand that we will be required to attend a mandatory 6 hour training class a few weeks prior to the children’s arrival in one of the program cities: currently Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia, and Houston. We will be presented a more thorough and detailed hosting parent training manual after our hosting program fees/donations are completed. And, we agree to attend a few mandatory group events at various times throughout the hosting program, unless otherwise approved by the program director in advance.
